counseling diverse populations

The goal of this course is to sensitize students to the way in which societal power dynamics play a role in counseling people of diverse backgrounds. Through an exploration of personal racial identity and the client's personal racial/cultural characteristics, students will become more aware of how these processes influence counseling relationships. This course is designed to present the students with the perspectives and experiences of underrepresented populations such as women, ethnic and cultural minorities, people with disabilities, and gay/lesbian populations.
