teaching philosophy
In keeping with the St. Edward’s University mission, I challenge my students to demonstrate their ability to identify controversial, unresolved, or current issues in the field of psychology as well as to demonstrate their ability to assess ethical issues through lectures, class discussions, and activities. I help them to confront critical and sometimes controversial issues in our society today by reading about such topics, discussing them in class, holding classroom debates on the topics, and writing reaction papers based on their experiences.
Exposing my students to diverse perspectives and challenging them to step outside their own comfort zones to consider others’ circumstances, views, and opinions is critical to the entire holistic learning process. It encourages them to consider different perspectives and realize that we should embrace the diversity that surrounds us every day with open minds and open hearts.
